Although, as you know, I have been fortunate enough to be able to learn several languages that provided me with culture, friends and many satisfactions (some headaches also when doing very complex translations), you will allow me that, for this, I use the first one I learnt from my mother’s lips. You will, possibly, have thought it strange that I had not said yet anything in this blog, but you know what they say...digestions become slower when you get older. The truth is that you have all written so many nice things about me, that I needed some time to assimilate them and now I come to express my most sincere thanks to you. The fact of being older than all of you has meant that I nearly always experimented situations in life before you . They have all been well worth it. And now has come the time of retirement, of becoming a senior citizen. A new experience for which no training is at hand and I am now convinced that it would be far healthier if one reached it gradually. It is clear that jubilación the Spanish word for it derives from the Latin jubilatio (joy), but I was unable to understand if this was due to something as prosaic as goobye to work and welcome to the pension. But I have only recently learnt that its origin is in Moses’s Law which established that the 50th year of a person, after the 49th, or the 7 times 7, should be a jubilee year, with lots of advantages for that person. That was an important milestone in the lives of the people of Israel and it was announced with the yobel, a musical instrument, and this noun was the origin of the latin jubilatium. There you have the remote origins of our pensions. During the last few weeks, as clients come to see me, they are very kind and obliging. They ask me if I am looking forward to my new phase in life, if I am crossing the days off on the calendar, if I have plans on how I will be spending my time and those already retired assure me that it is the best time of life. It is, no doubt, a big change in one’s life and I will, naturally, miss you, my colleagues, and the numerous conversations with so many people. On the other hand, my disciplined side has made prepare myself mentally for it, for quite sometime. One of our clients, on hearing that I am already playing the piano once again, but now on a daily basis, sent me an email to say that he would be checking what concerts were being given in the Balearic Islands. Ha, ha! Though nothing is impossible, Voltarie wrote his Candide when he was sixty-five and Wagner completed Parsifal at sixty-nine. And now let me finish with some advice: Give your service as if it was for your own home. And above all, don’t allow technological progress to suffocate human emotions. Possiblement haureu pensat que era estrany que encara no hagués donat senyals de vida per aquest blog, però ja sabeu el que diuen....a la vellesa les digestions es tornen més feixugues... La veritat és que heu escrit tantes coses polides de mi, que he necessitat un temps per pair-les i, ara, us dic gràcies, sincerament. Ser més gran que voltros fa que hagi experimentat situacions també abans que voltros. Totes han valgut la pena. Ara arriba la de la tercera edat, la jubilació. Una experiència per la qual tampoc rebem preparació i que crec que seria saludable que arribés progressivament. És clar que la paraula deriva de la llatina jubilatio (goig), però no aconseguia comprendre si el motiu era per quelcom tan prosaic com allò de adéu al treball i benvinguda la pensió. Acab d’esbrinar que el seu origen està en la Llei de Moisès, que establia que l’any 50 de la vida d’una persona, després del 49, és a dir de les 7 vegades 7, es celebrés com a any jubilar, amb molts avantatges per aquesta persona. Açò era una fita transcendent en la vida del poble d’Israel i s’anunciava amb el yobel, un instrument musical, paraula de la qual es derivà la paraula llatina iubilum. Ja ho veis, el balboteig de les pensions. Aquestes darreres setmanes, els clients estan tenint també molts detalls amb mi i em demanen si estic il•lusionat, si estic creuant els dies al calendari, si ja sé com ocuparé el temps i m’asseguren que és la millor etapa de la vida. És clar que és un canvi molt gran en la vida d’una persona i és clar que us enyoraré a voltros companys i també el tracte continu amb tanta gent. Per altra banda, el meu costat disciplinat fa temps que s’ha anat mentalitzant. Idees i ganes d’aprendre encara en tenc prou. Un client, en saber que dedic més temps a tocar el piano, em va enviar un email dient que estarà atent als anuncis de concerts a les Illes. Ja veis! Tot i que res és impossible, Voltaire escrigué Candide als seixanta-cinc anys i Wagner acabà Parsifal als seixanta-nou. I acabaré amb uns consells: Quan doneu un servei, feu-ho com si es fes a casa vostra. Per damunt de tot, no deixeu que els avenços tecnològics ofeguin les emocions humanes.
